For the third consecutive year, Matimex, a part of the prestigious Iris Ceramica Group, makes a charitable and environmentally friendly gesture by donating 84 kg of clothing, equivalent to 340 items. This action aims to give a second life to the garments through reuse or recycling, thus contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions.
It is estimated that for every kilogram of recovered clothing, the emission of 6.1 kg of CO2 is avoided by preventing incineration or final disposal in waste treatment centers. Matimex's donation implies a total saving of 512 kg of CO2.
The donated garments, initially stored at the Humana transfer plant in Torrent (Valencia), are sorted at the preparation plant for reuse in l’Ametlla del Vallès (Barcelona). The management of this donation has been carried out by Humana Fundación Pueblo para Pueblo, an organization committed to sustainable development and the circular economy.
Of the total donation, 59% will be allocated for reuse, distributed through sustainable fashion stores operated by Humana in Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, and Granada, as well as exported to African countries to meet demand in less developed regions.
Additionally, 31% of garments not suitable for reuse will be sold to specialized textile recycling companies, transforming them into useful products such as blankets, insulation, or rags for the automotive industry. 2% of non-recyclable improper waste will be delivered to authorized managers, while the remaining 8% will be sent to a specialized waste treatment center.
Matimex's donation stands out as a eloquent example of corporate commitment to sustainability and environmental preservation.
